Weston has been picking 'favorite' dogs in the kennel since October. This month, he aptly chose Jessie. Little did we know that Jessie would use this moment of fame to move up in the ranks to become our latest Leader in Training. Jessie was whelped 5/26/2008. She was nicknamed after Jessie Royer who back in 2001, placed 14th in Iditarod and earned Rookie of the Year honors. At age 17 Jessie Royer, was not only the youngest musher to ever win Race to the Sky, she was also its first female winner. Our Jessie has some big shoes to fill and so far, she's doing a pretty damn good job!
Last year it took two people to hold Jessie still when it was time to put her booties on (clearly not a task that is acceptable for a distance sleddog). Then... Jessie would immediatly take them off. Now... she is a professional.
Jessie will make her racing debut this weekend at L'Odyssee Appalachienne as a member of Bob's 120 mile 12 dog team.
