Surprise, surprise

Since moving to NH over 10 years ago, our dogs have been subjected to Lyme Disease. It is almost unavoidable. We are surrounded by lush foliage, vernal pools, woodlands, ponds, etc. Take Allagash for a walk and expect to remove 5 ticks upon your return. Add an hour to your schedule for a simple 3 mile training run around Little Massabesic in order to inspecting for ticks.

Two weeks ago a friend inquired whether we might be interested in participating in a lyme disease risk factors and prevalence study. Absolutely! In addition to the 5 Snap tests she provided, we still had 1/2 a box of tests. So yesterday, 14 of our adults were tested for lyme. Rhonda even obtained hands on instruction for drawing blood. At least some of that early phlebotomy training was put to use!

We expected 90% of the dogs to test positive.

Surprise, surprise!
Here are the results:

2 = positive
3 = very weak
1 = very, very weak
8 = negative
